Ever wondered how supplement companies behind the scenes work to bring in large quantities of the latest, most talked about raw ingredients? When it comes to whey, everybody knows the dairy sector is first port of call - but what about testosterone boosters, pre-workouts, etc?!

Question: In your years working within the industry, which has been the hardest ingredient to source quality raws for that has caused the most hype?

Karl: To be honest, we don’t have too many issues sourcing quality raw ingredients. When we begin the process of formulating a new product, part of the remit is to speak with suppliers not only regarding price but also ongoing supply. In many cases we will put supply contracts in place, which if supply does become restricted means more than likely we will get supply when others wont as they have made a commitment to us. Additionally after 15 years of being in the business, James Phillips, our Managing Director has built up an enviable list of contacts. Its worth noting that before we take on new ingredient suppliers an audit is undertaken to ensure that both they as a company, and their product quality, will meet our needs.

Naturally many of the ingredients we use come from natural sources which does mean that sometimes you are at the will of mother nature. An example of this is oats, which have recently become in short supply due to a number of issues that have affected world supply. Luckily to date, it hasn’t caused any supply problems but that was down to us having buffer stock available to see us through this period.
