Grow While You Sleep!!

We are all aware of the importance of resting for recovery and muscle growth. But do we do the most to maximise this? There are many supplements out there to support sleep time, so here is a review of proteins designed for bed time to help get the most out of your sleep.

Reflex Micellar Casein

This Reflex offering is one of the most simple but effective forms of protein designed for bed time. It consists of milk protein concentrate split  as 80% micellar casein and 20% whey protein. This will provide you a constant shot of aminos for the next 6 hours. Each 45g serving containing 35.1g of protein and is also very low in fat and carbs containing only 3.5g of carbs and 0.6g of fat.

PHD Pharma Blend

PhD's offering is a blend of proteins consisting of micellar casein, whey protein concentrate, egg white and soya protein isolate. This blend ensures it contains a shot of fast release protein over 2 hours, medium release over 4 hours and a slow release over 6 hours hitting all aspects of amino delivery during your sleep. Each 55g serving contains 42g of protein, 2.53g of carbs, 3.57g of fat and also contains 1.15g of flaxseed oil.

Boditronics Midnight Express

Boditronics midnight express again contains a mix of proteins, with micellar casein, whey protein concentrate, and egg albumen. Again this provides a hit of differant amino acid profiles for the next 6-8 hours. The advantage of Midnight Express is that it also contains a high level of hmb (3g) and high levels of glutamine (11.15g). Each 68g serving provides 40g of protein, 14.97g of carbs and 5.15g of fat. So whilst slightly higher in carbs than the other two option, it has the added extra's that the others don't, and if it comes down to taste, then I have to be honest, the strawberry and cream flavour is simply amazing.

Ok, so I've looked at three of our most popoular options, but here is a short list of other products that fall in the same category:

Reflex Peptide Fusion
Applied Nutrition Probolic-4
SCI-MX GRS-5 Protein System
BSN Syntha-6
CNP Peptide Fusion

So how would you make sure you're picking the right one for you? Well, the truth is, they all do a great job, so if the be-all and end-all of the mater for you is taste, then Probolic-4, Syntha-6, Midnight Express may be at the top of your table. If quality of ingredients is the ultimate, then Peptide Fusion probably leads the pack.

If you're more concerned with getting the right one for your body type, then I'd suggest that the people who tend to be natuarally 'stick thin' focus on the very slowest release proteins, such as Reflex Micellar or CNP's Peptide Fusion, whilst the rest of us might want to opt for tyhe lowest GI product such as Peptide Fusion or even a whey/soy blend like Probolic-4

You'r average weight training 200lb guy would be looking for around 40g of protein per shake, and the shake should be mixed in water to avoid destroying the release pattern of the product.

So hopefully you will now optimise your sleep time so that you can actually maximise your gains and GROW WHILE YOU SLEEP!!!
