Weight Sets

Weight Sets

Ever since China put up the price of iron, its been hard work finding weight plates, bars, and weight sets at a reasonable price.

We've now got a full range of regular plates, tri-grip plates, olypic plates, bars, kettlebells, dumbbells, hammers and clubbells. We've also got a full range of some pretty hard to find strength and conditioning equipment. We've sourced these from all around the world, so hopefully our prices will be pretty keen.

Re: Weight Sets

We set up these weight sets in store, and they are great value for money and ideal for christmas presents.

Re: Weight Sets

Hi All
I'm a new one here.
I'm looking for Olympic weight set for home gym. I need more or less precise weights, about 150kg in total.
Bought recently Bodymax from Powerhouse-fitness and saw 4-10% error in weights compared to what was stated, for example 20kg disk was 18.3kg. Horrible. Had difficult time returning them.

Something within 3-4% error would suit me, but obviously the more precise the better. I know Eleiko but don't have £1300 just for disks... Hoping to find within £300-400
Do you have this sort of quality and may be even guarantee it?

Cheers!

Re: Weight Sets

Hi Boiky.

Eleiko are the defto standard in weight plates. The accuracy of the plates is unfortunately reflected in the price.

I have weighed our plates from time to time and never seen them be anywhere near as 10% off their weight.

However, this is probably one of those times when you're best calling in a store to buy, and not over the internet to make sure you get exactly what you ask for and dont have to go through the risk of being disappointed again.

The reason for seeing them is that you may find the 5kg plate slightly over (maybe just 2-3%) and the 10kg slightly under (2-3%) and this may cause too much imbalance for you. If youre there with a set of scales you can judge if the amount you pay justifies the level of inaccuracy.

Re: Weight Sets

'The weight of weights'

I often think I can tell the difference with different db's. I train with 3 differnt types:

- cast solid lumps in lb's:- Which I have a pretty good feeling there pretty much bang on.

- cast plates on fixed bar:- For me these always and in theory way more than stated eg a 20kg db would have 2x5kg plates each side totalling 20kg but then there's the bar, so does each of these db's actually weigh another 1-2kg's including the bar?

- rubber weights on metal bar:- for me these some times feel lighter although I would imagine there pretty close to the correct weight.

Any thoughts?

Re: Weight Sets

I get where you're coming from there Steve - we have two sets of dumbells as well, the solid cast DB's and then the cast plates fixed on a bar - i've always wondered if it factors the weight of that little bar and clips holding it all together. We have loads of BB plates around the place as well - some are know to be 5% over and some are less so i have to make sure that each side of the bar at least has the same type of plate on. makes it tricky going for a record - gotta use the same plates everytime. Then of course you have the issue that not even every bar is the same weight - some are bent out of proportion as well. Basically it's a nightmate and for benching/deads/squats i try and use the same bar and plates everytime i train and scavenge the gym to find them

Re: Weight Sets

Personally I don't think the bars are factored in and on the subject of bars - bent bb are one of my biggest bug bearers in the gym - hate it! I find it worst with deads as it plays havack with your grip plus its the exercise I'd use the most weight on.

Re: Weight Sets

One of my biggest hates in the gym is the knobs that do a set of rack deadlifts so you can happily lob 6plates a side on BUT then they leave it balancing on the saftey rails for ages bending the bar permanently!!! Got a new set of trainers who also believe that it's acceptable policy to throw dumbells once you've finished your set - now we also have bent dumbbelss whcih are a nightmare to get in postion at the best of times anyway!

Re: Weight Sets

Yer throughing db's is a thing I see a lot but not something I've ever done. Part of my gyms floor is fekt from people lobbing big db's down after there set!

Re: Weight Sets

if you've done a set hard enough then you shouldnt have the energy left to hurl the DB across the floor and shout!!

Re: Weight Sets

Spot on I always try to get them back to my thighs then down (I train alone mainly so its just what I've taught myself to do). Ok if its really really heavy and there's no safe way to get the weight down drop it by your side as careful as posible but not ever set....
