Before you die, what do you want to accomplish?

Before you die, what do you want to accomplish?

I know this is quite a deep question - pretty headline grabbing - but still, I thought it'd get some pretty interesting answers from those of you who'd like to share them.

I'm actually really interested to see what people's goals are, what they define 'success' and 'happiness' as, and how this compares to what others are trying to achieve. At the end of the day, whatever makes us happy is obviously what we'll pursue, and it'd be great if we could at least support each other to some extent.

Personally, I'd like to accomplish the following and would feel incredible fulfillment if I did so (at least this is how I feel now)

-Speak Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish fluently
-Travel the world and see every historical landmark I'm curious about (Asia and South America in particular.. I have special plans for this already)
-Create a educational philosophy that can inspire others to live fullfilling, prosperous, happy lives and give children the best possible start to life - and sustain an income off this that I can live my life comfortably from.
-Have children and provide a fantastic life for them
-When all is said and done, be in the knowledge that I gave it my all and did my best at every possible endeavour and can be content with what's left

Really interested to hear what you guys have in mind!

For me I would like to be so rich that I wouldn't have to worry or stress about bills / everyday expenses, If i seen something i liked just buy it without worrying or maxing out on credit card.... money makes the world go Around Don't care what anyone else says......... without money life would be very difficult !! If i won the lottery it would certainly change my life... these people that say it wouldn't well I  don't believe em !!

To get the fuck out of this dustbin of a town called Luton and away from the unwashed elements that crawl through it's sewage encrusted streets. This will happen by the end of Autumn if  the escape plan goes by the numbers. I'd also like to get rid of this horrendous chip on my shoulder and stop hating the world. Oh yes, and to settle down with a tall blond with legs that go on forever. Finally, i'd like to live on my very own custom-made mini pirate ship and sail across the oceans. I'm damn well not dying until i achieve those goals!

To be British champion as a professional boxer at light heavyweight or super middleweight if i can make it anything else after that would be a bonus but i do think i can go past British level, and to also have a holiday home in spain or somwhere nice in Europe that i can go to all the time and retire to!

Mines pretty simple. At 50 I have 2 very young kids, and I want to be around long enough to see them (long) into adulthood.

By the way Darren, get real, come on you escape from Luton, a tall gorgeous blonde, a pirate ship - well I can believe those, but losing the chip of your shoulder never, the forum would never be the same again

Re: Before you die, what do you want to accomplish?

Definitely think being rich is up there. but nowadays i'd be happy with being comfortably well off instead of stinking rich. but would still choose stinking rich if given the choice.
what I have learnt though, is that you really need to plan what you want. IF you say you want to retire at 50 then you need to sit down and work out the maths that will allow it to happen. then figure out how to make it happen. too many people have wishes instead of a plan.
Want to visit all the historical lankmarks like Adam, then figure out how to do it and make a plan. it may take 50 years of holidays to do it but its achieveable.
(although no legal plan may get Darren a Long legged blonde woman! LOL)

I've noticed that the people who make a plan and then actively go after it usually end up doing it if they want it bad enough. I believe that most people on this forum can retire with well over 2-3 million quid if they really wanted to.

I actually just did the math, £6000 invested every year at 8.5% interest, (which i think is the average return from the stock exchange and acounts for fees, tax etc over last 100 years. ) from the age of 25 and the interest re-invested every year means that at age 65 you would have just over 2 million quid in the bank.  with a yearly interest of  approx £165,000 a year.
if you started at 18 you'd actually have over £3.7 million in the bank and have £320k a year salary.

its a lot to save up every year but if you can start early then you can retire early. likewise with other things you want to accomplish. write them down, and then figure out how to do it. then see if your willing to do what you need to make it happen.

Re: Before you die, what do you want to accomplish?

@Mike, Ok i think losing the chip on my shoulder may not be a feasable objective as i love hating the world too much. All other objectives including the leggy blonde will be achieved give or take moving a mountain or two.

@Marty, i've already spent 300 years in.......................i hate to even mention the place - Luton         Nation-Smilies/facepalm                  The smell is getting too much to handle now though and so i'll have to be off before the end of the year. If not then i'll have to go on a dis-infection spree with a flamethrower.

Excellent post Nassau, i'll have to start saving my dole money so i can retire when humans have colonised the Orians belt.

Many things but for me its just boils down to acheiving happiness, as cheesy as it sounds.

Re: Before you die, what do you want to accomplish?

Very interesting post there Nassau. Food for thought.

Josh, not cheesy at all mate. Like you said, that's the ultimate goal, and everything else is irrelevant really unless it contributes towards that.

Sorry mate, time to revisit the math....

When you factor in inflation, that and £3m will buy you a daily newspaper at the age of 65.
