My journey to my defining fight
My journey to my defining fight
I have been doing MMA on and off now for a year and a half but had a lot of freestyle wrestling experience beforehand. I had my first fight only 6 months in and got a draw against a much more experienced and undefeated opponent. After that fight I really got the hunger for it and planned many more fights but niggling and more long term injurys stopped me in my tracks. Early this year after having problems with my knee's I decided to get them looked at and was told by a physio that pretty much all my cartledge around my knee's had worn away and my right kneecap was actually out of place. At this point I thought I should knock the sport on the head as it was only a hobby and having serious knee trouble when I'm older worried me. I had two months off and started to miss it and I still really felt I had some unfinished business with the sport, I've always thought I had great potenial and if I really put the work in I could be a very talented fighter. After some rest and using Biorhythms olio regularly my knee's felt much better as well.I decided to return, even if it was just now and again but recently I've really got the hunger back and am enjoying it more than ever. I've now decided that I want to give things a real go and see what I can achieve and in the upcoming months I WANT TO FIGHT. I've decided to make this page to document how I get on, how my training improves, when I get a fight booked and fingers crossed even review my fight. I've also made for this so it motivates me at times when I'm feeling lazy haha. Look forward to sharing this with you guys.

josh if you have knee trouble / cartilage trouble it won't go away on it's own it will gradually get worse & pretty painful the mma will aggreiavate alot...... i did mma for two years & trust me it takes alot out of your body / joints............. you need to get your knee sorted first mate.... i had crucial ligament operation last august after we come back off holiday, 8- 12 weeks recovery plus shit loads of physio & stretching it's much better now though........ if it is only cartilage you will go in on the morning & out on the evening... (knee Arthroscopy) key hole surgery removal or repair of torn meniscal / trimming of the torn pieces of Articular cartilage then approx 4- 6 weeks recovery time........ then basically strenghtening & flexing / stretching the knee to recovery, you be good to go then.......... you soon be as good as jackie chan mate !!

Get your knees cleaned out. Its a simple enough surgery. They just shave and smooth out the rough parts. Look into Mike Robertsons Bullet Proof knees as well for future prehab.

My mum had the same thing Josh when she was working at IBC and left it too long. She now has unreversable arthritis and has already had one knee replacement and is penciled in for another later this month. Definately surgury is paramount imo to avoid problems later on.

Re: My journey to my defining fight
Training has been going great, had pb's in my squat and deadlift recently and managing to keep up my hours at mma. Had a week off last week which is very rare for me but had a lot on and do feel a lot better for it. Must admit I am starting to feel a bit of shin splints so will be getting that looked at as soon as I can.

Also have spoke to my coach about fighting before the end of the year and he liked the idea so I'm on track right now.

Nice 1 josh keep the udates coming, so are there weight divisions in these competitions; do you personally have to shed or put on any weight to compete?
